Home – to go!

We did it!  The move was relatively successful and we now call our camper trailer ‘Home Sweet Home’.

We are parked at a campground for the next week or so until we clear enough space for it on our property.  Somehow, we managed to fit all of the things that filled our old house in to two very crammed 30 feet long storage units.  Not an easy task!   Despite our attempt to organise our belongings in to three categories “what we’ll want this summer”, “what we’ll want this winter” and “what we don’t won’t need until the new house is built”, we will no doubt be digging through the storage units more than once over the next few months…

Surprisingly, one of the areas we are having the most difficulty dealing with is our pantry.  We did a pretty good job at eating up what we had and resisting the temptation to stock up on sale items over the past couple of months but now we have had to come to terms with the fact that we are going to have to adapt our recipes and waste some of the half used bottles of oils and vinegars and spices we used on a regular basis.  There is just no room in the camper and storing them is just asking for rodent trouble.  With only a tiny fridge and a minuscule propane oven and a couple of camping dutch ovens to bake with (if I can find them in the storage unit…) we have a lot of adjustments to make as far as menu planning.  It goes without saying that the children have been enjoying the transition diet of quasi-fast-food!

This coming week, we will be laying the ground work for putting in the approx 700ft driveway and bringing power underground to the house site.  We are enjoying the running water and warm showers at the campground but can’t wait to move to our own space!
